TRAVEL GUIDES

An Inspirational Escape

At Nimo, we have a special  affection for places off the beaten path. Armenia isn't the first destination that comes to mind when planning a journey. In fact, most of us probably don't have a clear picture of what to expect. And that's exactly the beauty of it. You arrive in Yerevan with no expectations and leave with a heart full of new impressions. Traveling somewhere less familiar allows you to experience a place with an open mind and discover its history, culture and people without preconceived ideas. We have to admit that, before the trip, our knowledge of Armenia barely extended beyond the fact that the Kardashians have Armenian roots. We came home with something much more valuable — a genuine admiration for this remarkable country.

Jerewan

Discover: Jerevan

Jerevan is one of the oldest cities in the world. People have lived here without a break for over 2,800 years. Armenia’s capital has a highly distinct and famous collection of Soviet Brutalist and Modernist architecture – like the Cascade Complex I am standing on, a giant, monumental limestone and concrete stairway with 572 steps. But Yerevan also has an incredibly soft, relaxed, and welcoming side that contrasts beautifully with its monumental stone architecture. The city operates at a slow, Mediterranean-style pace, especially after sunset, with bustling sidewalk cafés and Tamanyan Street – the pedestrian-only zone filled with art installations, wine bars, and cozy gelato shops.

Countryside Stay: Dilijani Tun Hotel

A true gem, Dilijani Tun looks out over Dilijan, which is found in one of the most beautiful regions of Armenia – the Tavush. From its top, Dilijani Tun sits between the mountains and the horizon, looking out over the landscape below. The house has large garden designed for guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of the nature. Look past the dry-stone walls to the exotic and authentic Armenian trees. Everything has been designed to preserve and enhance the authenticity of the place.

Armenian Switzerland

The landscape surrounding the Dilijani Tun Hotel provides a stunning showcase of Armenia's lush, mountainous scenery. The area is enveloped by deeply layered woodlands consisting primarily of oak, beech, hornbeam, and dense pine groves. In the morning and evening, low-hanging clouds and mountain fog settle into these valleys, creating a fairytale atmosphere.

Culture: The Ancient Sites

Armenia has a unique religious history: it was the very first country in the world to officially adopt Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD. The Temple of Garni is a classical Hellenistic temple and perhaps the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia.
